It'd be one thing to invite yourself on a family trip to the Caribbean, because that sounds awesome. But the MIL here specifically invited herself to the car trip part… why? Just why?
Instead of flying herself in to the destination, or even just renting her own car, the MIL really wants in on the car trip. It already sounds like this car is packed full. Maybe the family can split up into 2 cars, giving everyone a little more room to spread out.

Kudos to the daughter for being aware of her own emotions. It seems like she's strongly hinting that she doesn't want the MIL here either. All that nagging is really going to ruin the car trip, which could otherwise be a really pleasant experience.

This person had the perfect solution
via WorkingInterview1942Oops, they're all out of cars! What a shame! Guess grandma will have to get her own car.
No one would be to blame in this hypothetical situation. The MIL could steam all she wanted to, but hey, only so many people can fit in one car. She'll just have to find her own way there.
